Edinburgh Comedy Award Nominees and Winners:
Sarah Keyworth: Pacific (pictured)
Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee for Best Newcomer and winner of the Herald Angel Award returns with a brand-new hour of comedy about the little things, the smallest details, the fixed and distinct aspects that make up what we definitively are, how we expressly think and who we unambiguously love. 'Powerful, poignant and achingly funny stuff' ***** (Herald). 'It's refreshing to see something so generous and outward-looking' (Chortle). 'The most hilarious visual images' **** (Scotsman). 'An absolute gem' **** (Evening Standard).
Will Adamsdale: Facetime
He won the 2004 Perrier award in 2004 but, let’s face it, he’s hardly kicked-on has he?
This show will be about failures, really (his, generally).
And time.
And the 3-year-old son who recently said, ‘let’s leave him in the woods.’
Expect Stories of staggering technical incompetence! Songs of the quiet hell of the gentrifier! Poor attempts to pass off his flaws as his generation’s fault! Expect a tussle between the personal and the public that could comfortably sit on the pages of one of Arthur Miller’s early teenage plays!
Tom Ballard: Enough
Best Show Nominee, Edinburgh Comedy Awards 2016. Best Show Winner, Sydney Comedy Festival 2017. Top 3 Best Reviewed Comedy Shows, Edinburgh Fringe 2017. As heard on The Bugle. Tom spent 2018 hosting his own late-night satirical TV show, Tonightly with Tom Ballard, and watching the neo-liberal order continue to destroy our collective future. Now he’s written some very funny jokes about all that and he wants to sell them to you for money because that’s what capitalism demands. 'Hilarious from start to finish… absolutely flawless' ***** (Advertiser, Adelaide). ****½ (Herald Sun). **** (Scotsman).
Jordan Brookes: I’ve Got Nothing (pictured)
No tricks. No gimmicks. No plan. Just an hour in my company as we reach the end. Things will be over soon. We're nearly there everyone! Great work. But before we go, I'm making one last attempt to find connection in the here and now, to snuffle out any remaining joy in this rapidly crumbling world, before it's too late. Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee 2017. Chortle Comedian's Comedian Award winner 2018. 'Majestic and challenging' ***** (List). 'Impressively brutal and self-lacerating physical comedy' ***** (Skinny). 'Digressive, deeply unsettling and very funny' **** (Guardian).
Debut Comedy Shows
Aaron Chen: piss off (just kidding)
Winner: Best Newcomer 2017, Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Winner: Best Newcomer 2017, Sydney Comedy Festival Winner. Directors' Choice 2016, Melbourne International Comedy Festival. National Finalist, RAW Comedy 2013. Piss Off represents the dark side of Aaron, evil and mean. And Just Kidding represents that after every bitter there is a sweet. Do you believe me?
“a couple more years should see him right” Chortle (more than a couple of years ago)
Shivani Thussu: Prefer Not to Say
You make around 30,000 decisions every day, so you probably know what you like, to be fair. But how do you know what you like and why do you even like it? Award-winning writer-performer Shivani Thussu’s debut hour of character comedy is set in a focus group that goes too far. As seen on Pls Like (BBC). One of Funny Women's 'Ones to Watch' (2018). Directed by award-winning comedian Freya Slipper.
George Fouracres: Gentlemon (pictures)
George Fouracres, Wolverhampton’s fancy-pantsiest son, tells stories of a Black Country childhood, sings ancient ballads, becomes occasional grotesques, and splatters his odd brain matter all over the stage in his debut stand-up hour. You may know him from Edinburgh Comedy Award-nominated sketch trio Daphne, or from BBC Radio4, BBC Three, Channel 4, and ABC. If not, come, and behold.
“George is THE FUTURE OF COMEDY. He’s a proper genius.” - Caitlin Moran
“A genuinely exciting comic actor who doesn’t seem able to be not funny...put me in mind of a male Julie Walters.” – Chortle
Anna and Helen: Stuck in a Rat
Ever found yourself stuck in a rat? Unpleasant, isn't it. Time marches on, but you're on the spot. Not even marching. Very still. Stagnating, even. Stuck in that rat. We've all been there. Join Anna O'Grady and Helen Cripps in their debut show for a chance of getting out. The future is exciting, and it's still in front of you. If you've got the questions, they've got the answers*. *Depends on the questions. As seen on Flowers (C4 and Netflix).
Arnab Chanda: Boy from Earth
The debut stand-up hour from Arnab Chanda (Russell Howard's Good News, BBC’s Pls Like, 2018 Writers Guild Nominee), who was born in Yorkshire, but grew up abroad, but lives in London, but who cares.
“Star of tomorrow… he’s a rare talent on the U.K. circuit” -The Herald
“Arnab Chanda is the funniest person on earth.” -Simon Amstell
Glamrou: From Quran to Queen
Drag sensation Glamrou battles to merge their queer identity and Islamic heritage. In this blisteringly funny and political debut, Glamrou serenades their lover, Allah, with love songs, break-up songs and minaret-sized wigs. “Glamrou’s camp theatrics come with a political edge. It’s striking how transgressive it feels.” Guardian (4*Denim) “Glamrou is full of heart and soul.” Scotsman (5*Denim) “Glamrou, the alpha of the group, offers a very provocative take on a Muslim upbringing that’s virtually flirting with a fatwa.” Chortle (4*Denim) “Unapologetically queer and almost insultingly imaginative, Glamrou is a formidable intellectual powerhouse.” QXMagazine

Ticker
Written and performed by Tom Machell
Ticker follows twenty-something Spencer, a Geordie millennial who is deeply in love with the inestimable Gabi. But Spencer's life is torn apart by Gabi's untimely – and unexplained – death. How can he even begin to cope with finding himself suddenly a prime suspect and a chief mourner? Themes of outsider grief and loneliness meet black humour and frank dialogue, exploring male identity, toxic aggression and how not talking about things can eventually lead to self-destruction.
Written and performed by Tom Machell
Directed and developed by Derek Anderson.
Composer and Sound Design by Holly Khan
