Ade Edmondson is to join the cast of Eastenders.

According to the BBC the star of The Young Ones and Bottom (pictured with his co-star and comedy partner the late Rik Mayall) will be joining the cast of the BBC One soap to play Daniel Cook, a new love interest for Jean Slater, played by Gillian Wright and his first appearance will be this summer. 

In recent years Edmondson has taken on on a number of straight acting roles. He appeared in the TV version of War And Peace and in the Star Wars film The Last Jedi.

He also appeared in a sci-fi stage show with Nigel Planer entitled Vulcan 7, which successfully toured the UK.
