The Mail Online has excelled itself with an article about Harry Styles and Jack Whitehall's girlfriend Gemma Chan. The story says that the One Direction star was snapped leaving a London hotel in close proximity to Whitehall's girlfriend Gemma Chan: "Sporting one of his favourite bandanas, Harry made his way into a waiting car after slipping through one of the recently opened venue’s exits with Gemma, 31, who appeared to be without her long-term boyfriend, foppish comedian Jack Whitehall." Well, she certainly appears to be without Whitehall in the pictures they have run (though I think I can see what appears to be his ear in one snap). Except that as other pictures elsewhere show, Jack Whitehall was also leaving the venue at the same time and was right behind Chan.
This is not the first time the Mail's website has had a sense of humour failure where comedians are concerned. Earlier this year they ran a story on the sale of a house that Charles II had once lived in. To illustrate the story they ran a picture of Bridget Christie dressed as Charles II for her 2006 Edinburgh Fringe show. As Christie herself noted, not only is she a woman and Charles II was a man, but this was a photograph rather than a painting and they did not have cameras in the 17th century. The website later corrected the Charles II story on their website.
