A short clip of the spoof African dictator character played by Sliced/Famalam star Samson Kayo has been released.

The character, who is set to front a pilot entitled The Colonel Banjoko show, is at the centre of a complaint from stand-up comedian Benjamin Bankole Bello, who has been doing a spoof African dictator character called President Obonjo on the live comedy circuit for a decade.

A spokesperson from BBC Studios, who are producing the pilot for E4 has said: "Colonel Banjoko is an original character, created by BBC Studios for Samson Kayo and we are delighted he is taking on the role. It was inspired by a general in a recent coup who asked everyone to remain calm on the TV and the BBC Studios Comedy team approached Samson with the idea. Viewers will get the opportunity to see it for themselves if the pilot is taken to series.”

But despite a request on social media for more information no more details of the inspiration have been offered.
