Comedian/writer Archie Maddocks' play A Place For We is to get its world premiere run at North London's prestigious Park Theatre.
The play tells the inter-generational bittersweet story of London’s changing communities.
“There’s five generations of tradition in these walls”
A funeral parlour. A pub. An urban-zen enoteca and conscious eatery. One building in Brixton tells the story of London’s changing communities over three very different generations.
Trinidadian funeral director Clarence and fifth generation pub owner George don’t want things to change. But everything around them is changing. Do they adapt to survive? Or stay true to their roots and risk it all... family, tradition, business?
In the wake of the Windrush scandal, Archie Maddocks' comedy holds a mirror up to the ever-changing face of London’s communities in search of their common beating heart.
A Place for We was shortlisted in 2017 for both the Bruntwood Prize and Alfred Fagon Award, it was first performed as a staged reading at Talawa Firsts 2018 and is directed by Talawa Theatre’s Artistic Director Michael Buffong.
Archie is an emerging writer as well as stand-up. His work has been produced at the Bush Theatre, Lyric Hammersmith, Orange Tree Theatre, Royal Court, and in New York at the New Light Theatre.
In 2017 he was a part of the BBC Writers Room “London Voices” and in 2018 he was selected as part of the prestigious 4Screenwriting course. He was also named as the writer in Residence at BBC Radio Drama London Production.
2018 saw him gain a commission from Vertigo Films to develop a feature about moped gangs, as well as a commission from Moonage Pictures to write an episode of their new show INTERGALACTIC for Sky.
A Place For We is supported by Park Theatre’s Producers’ Circle. Casting is to be announced.
