It has been confirmed that American comedian Doug Stanhope is to appear in the second series of the Karl Pilkington scripted tragi-comedy Sick of It.
Stanhope was in the UK in April doing some filming but it was not confirmed at the time that it was for this Sky One series. Although he did drop a pretty strong hint when he tweeted a picture of himself with Pilkington and wrote: "Karl Pilkington may be the one person I that I have more in common with than any person I've met outside of stand-up comedy. No interests, no hobbies, but pure and simple logic. Like me, heavy on the simple. #SickOfIt"
It has not been revealed what character Stanhope plays, but in the acclaimed series Pilkngton plays two versions of his character, his real self, and the voice inside his head, as he muddles through the alternative life he may have led.
Stanhope has been a fan of Pilkington for a long time. Back in 2013 he said in an interview with fellow comic Tom Rhodes that he strongly related to Pilkington's "fucking dullard" in An Idiot Abroad, the breakthrough series Pilkingon made with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
Sick of It series two will also feature Jo Hartley (This is England, In My Skin, After Life) Dean Lennox-Kelly (Shameless, Jamestown), Sinead Matthews (Happy Go Lucky, Happy New Year Colin Burstead, Chewing Gum), Silas Carson (Trust, Phantom Thread, A Casual Vacancy) and Cariad Lloyd (Peep Show, Inside No.9) as well as regulars Marama Corlett (The Goob, Guardians of the Galaxy), and Sondra James (Joker: The Movie, High Maintenance).
The second series of Sick of It will air on Sky One in January 2020.
