News: TV's The Goes Wrong Show Divides Viewers

Seasonal BBC One comedy The Goes Wrong Show has divided viewers.

The TV  show is a spin-off of the highly acclaimed stage productions by Mischief Theatre such as The Play That Goes Wrong and, more recently, Peter Pan Goes Wrong.

Soon after the show started broadcasting the hashtag #thegoeswrongshow started trending.

Some viewers definitely enjoyed the knockabout humour.

Stuart Borley tweeted: "My kids are hysterical and I’m laughing at them laughing , and a bit at the show too. Harmless fun. Do ppl realise you actually don’t have to watch."

While Wayne Littlewood thought that maybe some people were missing the joke: "Most of the miserable sods on this thread. It’s supposed to be crap. That’s the point"

Damian Wilson chipped in with: "#TheGoesWrongShow is the funniest thing on TV for ages. We're all crying with laughter."

And Storm Girly Swot Crone wrote: "If you’ve ever done Am-Dram then #TheGoesWrongShow is even more hilarious, but I so wish they’d repeat the Peter Pan they did a few years ago as it was easily the funniest thing I’ve ever seen"

But GLNIC tweeted: "What absolute shite The Goes Wrong Show is, can I get a refund on my TV license please @BBCOne"

Stephen Brown tweeted: "This makes Mrs Brown's Boys look funny"

Marky Mc Markface tweeted: "@BBCOne what in the name of god is this drivel #thegoeswrongshow ? I was looking forward to something new / funny and all we got is something where even the canned laughter sounds like it’s only laughing out of embarrassment."

And Tom Geoffrey tweeted: "How have we gone from the likes of Blackadder, Faulty Towers and Morecambe & Wise to this? FFS"

Tragically a nation is still divided. Rupert Hawksley in The i wasn't impressed. "It is performed in front of a live audience but, watching from the sofa, I felt detached." The Guardian liked it though. Critic Tim Dowling wrote: "Everybody needs a bit of festive stupidity at this time of year"

Mischief Theatre's latest live show Magic Goes Wrong is currently at the Vaudeville Theatre in London. Buy tickets here.
