News: Comedian's Appeal For Australian Bushfire Help Raises A$20m in 48 Hours

A Facebook campaign to help the fight against the Australian bushfires has raised A$20 million (£10.6m) in just two days.

Australian comic Celeste Barber set up the Facebook page to raise money to help fire services in New South Wales. She has family who were evacuated from Eden, New South Wales. Clips on her Fcebook page show them dealing with the aftermath of the inferno.

The proceeds will go to NSW Rural Fire Service and the Brigades Donations Fund, which channels charitable donations directly to fire brigades.

Barber, who has a huge social media presence thanks to her parodies of celebrity photographs, performed at the Edinburgh Fringe last summer with her latest show in which she explained the stories behind some of her most famous images, her new relationship with famous people and the stalkers, fans and comments that get under her skin.

She also made her debut at the Just For Laughs Festival in 2019.
