Seann Walsh, Dane Baptiste, Kiri Pritchard McLean, Rosie Jones and Suzi Ruffell are lined up to appear in Comedy Central short form shows.
Comedians Solve World Problems and Dragony Aunts are returning to Comedy Central UK for second series in March with nine five-minute episodes. Comedians Solve World Problems, produced by Rumpus Media, involves two comedians endeavouring to solve one big, relevant and tricky world problem. Confirmed talent includes Walsh, Baptiste, Jones and Ruffell.
In Dragony Aunts, drag queens Crystal Rasmussen and Candy Warhol return to offer advice on topics such as parenting, ageing and coming out. Guest stars lined up include Mutya Buena of Sugababes fame, Sandi from Gogglebox, and comedian Stephen Bailey. The series has been produced by Comedy Central International.
Both series will once again be localised into more than 10 languages and rolled out across several territories following their successful first runs. In the UK, the first series of Comedians Solve World Problems gained 3 million views and Dragony Aunts attracted over 2 million views.
Comedy Central is also launching a new series today called Transaction, which has been produced by Comedy Central International, focussing on transgender narcissist Liv and her best friend Tom as they work the nightshift at a national supermarket. Their fast-paced dialogue touches on transgender issues alongside other identity topics and ‘every day’ discussions. The 6 x 5 minute series stars and is written by Jordan Gray, who made TV history as The Voice UK’s first ever transgender contestant, before making her name as a stand-up comedian. Thomas Gray (Comedy Central’s Absolutely Fine and BBC’s Ladventures) co-stars alongside.
Transaction will also be localised for international territories over the coming months. In the UK, all three series will sit across Comedy Central UK’s Facebook, YouTube and Instagram accounts, in addition to Comedycentral.co.uk.
“We’re continuing to forge full speed ahead in the short form space, expanding and growing our slate to engage digital first audiences on whichever platform they’re consuming content,” said Rebecca Hewett, Digital Executive Producer, Comedy Central International. “We’re very excited to be working with the hugely talented Jordan Gray on Transaction and have a fantastic talent line up for the second series of Comedians Solve World Problems and Dragony Aunts.”
Comedy Central’s digital content continues to expand and perform well. In 2019, Comedy Central International produced, delivered and localised more than 80 hours of original series. Most recently it launched three new short form series, Rosie Tries to Help, Comedy Central Chart Show and Waiting and brought back scripted comedy Bad Cramps for a second series.
