Pope Lonergan – comedian, Quaker, drug addict and creator of Pope’s Addiction Clinic and The Care Home Tour - has launched a new podcast.
Plimmin’ and Lompin’ showcases the unexpurgated candour of a stand-up who specialises in “stories that are awkward, humiliating, awful and hilarious, occasionally shocking but deeply compelling” (iNews)
At the end of Bangin’ on About: Elderly Care (Episode 1) there’s a conversation between Pope and a 98-year-old about how they’d like to be disposed of when they die (used with her daughter’s permission). Pope cared for this woman for 8½ years but was unable to attend her funeral due to lockdown restrictions.
Through this podcast he hopes to transmit dark subject matters, and personal trauma, while maintaining an open and affable demeanour. In uncertain times it’s a way to catheterise experience and temporarily drain it of its misery. Comedy and puerility must prevail.
Available on Spotify, Anchor, Apple Podcasts and other services.
New episodes will be released every Monday.
