Peter Crouch
Hello Peter. What can you tell us about Save Our Summer?
Maya, Alex and me are attempting to save our summer! Everything’s been cancelled - Wimbledon. Euros, music festivals, Olympics etc. We are attempting to bring a little bit of all of them in a show on a Saturday night. We have an amazing studio guest each night, sportsmen competing against each other and a music gig from some top bands and artists from their garden!
What can viewers expect?
Hopefully it will put a smile on faces! That’s the aim. I’ve signed up 'cos I know it will be fun, hopefully everyone gets on board and has a great time with us. We have Olympian’s competing against each other, we have great music, acts surprising fans and me trying not to kill myself with a load of my football mates in extreme retirement videos.
What are you looking forward to the most about it?
I’m looking forward to be able to leave the house!
Are there any particular elements/items/sketches you’re excited about?
I’ve loved doing VTs with some old friends. it was great catching up and some of the stuff we have done is pretty mad. All stuff we couldn’t do when we were playing. Jumping out of a plane with Jermaine Jenas was an experience I can tell you.
Do you have a dream guest for the show?
Prince William. I’m a big fan. We’ve crossed paths a few times he’s always been so down to earth, funny and interesting.
Is there a particular sporting event you’re hoping to bring to life on the show?
Euros, Wimbledon, Olympics… we’ll have the lot.
Alex Horne
What can you tell us about Save Our Summer?
Personally, it's a chance for me to spend two months in the company of my other tall hero, Peter Crouch. Weirdly, it pretty much is a dream come true. The show itself is going to be a mini festival of sport and entertainment and we, the Horne Section, are the house band, providing nice noises whenever Peter wants them.
What can viewers expect from it?
They can expect excellent hosts, to start with. Peter Crouch is in charge, of course, the spectacular Maya Jama is at his side and me and the band will be wearing smart matching clothes. The guests that are coming on the show are also remarkably good. There'll be a proper mix of famous names from sport and massive talent from elsewhere and they'll all be mucking in with whatever nonsense we've got up our sleeve that week. It'll be like those lime shower gels you get nowadays - fresh and invigorating.
What are you looking forward to the most about it?
I'm most looking forward to devoting a lot of each show to Peter, putting my feelings for him to music, and then watching his reactions. I'm sure he'll love every line I've written about him and it won't ever be awkward and we'll end up being best friends and go on holidays together and that sort of thing.
Are there any particular elements you’re excited about?
The sporting moments are going to be highlights for me. I've missed watching football, I'm gutted the Olympics isn't happening this year, but this show will provide the antidote to those feelings. There'll be highs, lows, skills, determination and slip-ups. We'll get to see people showing off and letting themselves down. It'll be fun.
Do you have a dream guest for the show?
I would love Andy Murray, Adele or Arnold Schwarzenegger to be on the show. They're the three people I'd start with and then I'd make my way through the rest of the alphabet. As a band, we've performed with some big names and it's always fun mucking about with people you've seen on the telly before so to be honest, the whole thing is going to be a blast.
How will the Horne Section be involved?
We shall be playing the theme tune, walk-on music, songs, sketches and, occasionally, jokes. Mostly though, we'll be the much needed eye-candy for the viewers.
Maya Jama
Hi Maya, what can you tell us about Save Our Summer?
It’s giving you everything you missed out on this summer. All the sport, entertainment, comedy, music performances from artists whose tours have been cancelled and there’s sports items from your favourite sports personalities. It’s a bag of fun on a Saturday night, a light-hearted entertainment show. None of us are that serious so viewers can expect a laugh. There’s something for everyone.
What are you looking forward to the most about it?
I’m looking forward to getting back on the telly. I’m looking forward to being able to showcase my personality on TV with a show I’m hosting. I haven’t ever been a main host of a show on channels one to five so it feels like a massive deal. I’m looking forward to getting back on the telly and having a laugh.
Are there any particular elements/items/sketches you’re excited about?
Now that would be telling… all I will say is Peter Crouch does some things that he wouldn’t have been able to do while he was a footballer…
Do you have a dream guest for the show?
My dream guest for the show would be Tyson Fury or John Fury because I’m in love with the whole family after watching their documentary. I think they’re all hilarious, super-talented and fascinating at the same time so yeah, would love them both on.
What type of music items can people expect?
They can expect lots of videos, clips and exclusives from their favourite artists. Obviously a lot of tours and shows were cancelled this summer so we’re hoping to bring little tastes of that to the show. It will feel more personal because it’s from their houses.
