Comedy club Always Be Comedy, which is currently running online, is launching a lip sync-inspired night featuring Marcus Brigstocke and Rachel Parris.
This follows the success of the real-life couple's home-made lip sync performances which they have been posting during lockdown. They also did Robbie Williams and Blur on the BBC sketch show Comedians Home Alone.
The first night of Rachel Parris & Marcus Brigstocke's Tuesday Night Club (with Always Be Comedy). is Tuesday, 23 June at 8pm.
Promoter/comedian James Gill explains how it came about: "The club had Rachel and Marcus on their regular online Wednesday night recently - there was a bit of a tech mishap their side (their speaker needed a new battery) and so they both had to take it in turns to pad (while the other looked for a battery) before their planned live lip sync battle. As this was happening, the comedy anorak in me was thinking: This is literally a format for a show.' And so here we are."
The format will be a bit of them together plus a set from Rachel and a set from Marcus before closing with a live lip sync battle, where viewers can vote.
Marcus says: "Open your Tuesday night carefully at the top and pour plenty of ABC into the mix. You should have a sweet, fun looking comedy batter by now. Next add two scoops of Rachel Parris and a generous cup of Marcus Brigstocke and work them in with your hands. When the mixture has settled and risen you can decorate it with an epic live lip sync battle (add glitter, smoke, lights and tomfoolery to taste). I for one cannot wait. This is the very purpose of a Tuesday. Delicious."
Rachel says: "I think Marcus's quote sounds like absolute filth. To counter that I'd like to say our night will be full of morally sound entertainment. There'll be nice jokes, and maybe sketches, and probably songs, none of this prodding and scooping. We cannot wait to show off to people again, we really miss it and are sick of each other's company. Thank you."
James Gill says: "I'm absolutely delighted. We're having a tricky time at home getting the four year old to stay in bed at the moment. With the regular ABC night on a Wednesday and now this on a Tuesday, it means there are two consecutive nights where I really dodge that particular parenting bullet. Oh, and it's vitally important that we keep live comedy going during a pandemic, and so on."
