Cult cabaret band The Tiger Lillies will perform their brand new album Covid 19 II on Youtube on Friday June 19. The gig will take place from 7pm - 8.30pm GMT (8pm - 9.30pm Central European Time).
The album, which features songs such as ‘Care Home’, ‘Just a Flu’ and ‘Don’t Swallow Bleach’ is a heartbreaking account of the epidemic.
It is the second part of an album created during the crisis, with songwriter Martyn Jacques locked down in Berlin and bass player Adrian Stout stranded in Athens.
Jacques says: “Some people do the gardening - but my hobby is writing and recording songs. I’m trying to keep myself sane.
“I used to spend quite a lot of time complaining about not really wanting to go on a plane and fly somewhere. I have been getting more and more reluctant to tour. But when it stops altogether I don’t like it at all.”
Covid-19 Part One premiered on May 1 - with 150,000 views from people in more than 30 countries. Jacques and Stout will perform the second part of the album in public for the first time - combining segments recorded separately.
The launch, which will stream on Youtube and Facebook simultaneously, allows fans to comment on the performance as it happens.
The Olivier Award winning band, whose famous fans include Mel Brooks, Marilyn Manson and Matt Groening, plan to make Covid-19 the basis for a new theatre show, in the style of their international hit The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
American graphic artist Mark Holthusen is creating visuals for the show which will document the story of the global pandemic.
