For the first time in his legendary career, comedic actor John Cleese will perform live to a global audience via his first international streaming event, turning his razor-sharp wit to the state of the world we live in, in ‘Why There is No Hope’. The show will take place on Sunday 2nd August at 8pm, streamed live from Cadogan Hall, London and features new material as Cleese puts his signature humanistic, comedic, observational spin on the dire state of the world.
Tickets for the global presentation are priced at £21.99 and include the live stream plus access for two days following the performance. Tickets are available at www.johncleese-uniquelives.com.
Announcing the show, John Cleese said: “I have recently been gathering my thoughts on the future of our planet and have reached the conclusion that the situation is completely hopeless, that there is nothing that can be done about it, but that it really doesn’t matter. I shall also be singing a short selection of Peruvian burial ditties. All this in my first ever live stream. Do join me, or a squad of North Korean hackers will make your life a living hell.”
One of the most influential and important comedic voices in entertainment history, Cleese first made his mark as a member of the legendary Monty Python troupe in the 1960s, writing and performing in the first three TV seasons of Flying Circus and in films that include Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Life of Brian. He co-wrote and starred in the sitcom Fawlty Towers and has gone on to write, produce, direct and star in some of the greatest comedic hits of the last 40 years, even receiving an OSCARnomination for best screenplay for A Fish Called Wanda.
Throughout his career he has continually parlayed his enormous talents into advancing the political causes he believes in. In 2014, Cleese published his New York Times best-selling memoir, So Anyway... which shares his ascent in the entertainment world, from his humble beginnings in a sleepy English town and his early comedic days at Cambridge University. His new book Creativity, A Short Cheerful Guide will be published by Penguin Random House on September 8, 2020.
