Russell Howard has extended his run of ‘work in progress’ dates at newly reopened The Clapham Grand to include two further dates: 4th October and 11th October after completing a run of 3 sold out shows, whilst kindly donating the £5k proceeds from 20th September’s show to the ‘Save The Grand’ campaign.
He also has a show confirmed on 27th September at the venue, making it a run of 6 shows.
The Save the Grand campaign has now raised over £62k, with all donations going to future proof one of the world’s oldest entertainment venues. In its 120th year, The Clapham Grand is partly relying on the campaign to remain open in these challenging times, post lockdown.
Following on from the success of the campaign, the venue has confirmed a number of upcoming shows, whilst also unveiling the reopening of its top balcony, which – until last week - had been closed for 15 years. The newly refurbished area increases the post-lockdown capacity of the venue by 100, taking it to 400 (these numbers are reduced from 1250 due to physical distancing). Refurbishing and opening the upper circle has given the venue an extra 100 tickets to sell with distancing.
Some of the brightest new stars and biggest names in comedy, drag and music are also set to take to the stage in the coming months, reflecting The Grand’s ongoing desire to showcase the very best in modern variety, comedy, music and entertainment. These shows are the building blocks to The Grand being able to reopen consistently and rebuilding its business model to secure a long-term future.
Russell Howard said of the announcement: “I’m really happy to be continuing my comedy journey out of lockdown at the iconic Clapham Grand. The shows I’ve done so far have been great, and it is a pleasure to be back indoors, performing to comedy fans in a venue that I love. It is an honour to be able to support the Save the Grand cause and do my bit to help save this iconic London venue.”
Clapham Grand manager Ally Wolf said of the upcoming shows: “We are incredibly proud to announce our first run of shows after lockdown, and in the process to reopen our upper circle, which has been closed to customers for 15 years!
“We can’t think of a better way of doing this than by welcoming Russell Howard for a further two nights in October. He’s been an incredible supporter of us - playing a huge part in ensuring our venue can remain trading in these uncertain times. After helping us raise £5k for Grand Aid - if anyone should be adding dates to the roster it is Russell!!”
