Al Murray is hosting an online pub quiz tonight in aid of blood cancer charity, DKMS.
The quiz is free to join but donations are encouraged. They are hoping to raise £5,000 for DKMS, which will pay for 125 people to register as a potential blood stem cell donor.
"Last year, my six-year old nephew Finley was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of childhood leukaemia. He urgently needed a blood stem cell transplant to survive.
I teamed up with DKMS, the blood cancer charity, and we launched a campaign to find Finlay’s ‘genetic twin’ – a perfect stranger, whose genetic profile was identical to Finley’s. The proverbial ‘needle in a haystack’ who could give him a second chance at life.
You signed up in your thousands. And each one of you legends now sit on the UK’s aligned blood stem cell registry - each a potential lifesaver-in-waiting for someone with blood cancer or a blood disorder, in need of a transplant.
And Finley was one of them. He found his match and is now out of hospital and back at home, all thanks to his anonymous blood stem cell hero. We can’t thank this beautiful human being enough for doing something so selfless for someone they’ve never met."
