Beat the Frog grew out of the highly acclaimed Raw night, the Frog’s new act showcase. Beat the Frog adds an element of competition and suspense into proceedings as three members of the audience are handed cards before the show starts to raise into the air if they don’t like what the act on stage. If all three cards go up the act gets ‘croaked off’ the stage before they get to complete their full five minute set.
The winners of the World Series over the years have included the writer of the popular I See You column Sam Gore, the critically acclaimed and all over the telly Brennan Reece, the award wining Mock the Week writer Rob Mulholland, comedy scene favourite Carl Hutchinson and the incomparable spikey Aussie Anna Spark.
Last year saw mischievous Lithuanian Evaldas Karosas win with irreverent Taiwanese accountant Kuan-wen Huang in second place. The special panel prize, voted for by the comedy industry folk in the room, was won by Toussaint Douglass from Lewisham.
