Harry Hill is writing a musical about Tony Blair*.
Tony! is set to run at the Turbine Theatre in London from February 4 - 6.
Hill is working on the show with his regular collaborator Steve Brown. They previously worked together on I Can't Sing, the musical about X Factor that ran in the West End, at the London Palladium in 2014.
This new project is described as follows:
"A reckless reappraisal of the life of former Bad Rumours front man and Britain’s first pop Prime Minister Tony Blair.
The story of how one man went from peace loving, long haired hippy and would-be pop star to warmongering multimillionaire in just a couple of decades.
An hilarious tragedy of political intrigue, religion, power and romance that plays fast and loose with the facts, owing as much to Citizen Kane as it does to The Marx Brothers - Karl and Groucho .
Throw in a cast of larger-than-life characters - Cherie Blair, Princess Diana, John Prescott, Peter Mandelson, Alistair Campbell, Osama Bin Laden, George W Bush, Saddam Hussein, Gordon Brown and of course that dodgy dossier.
All set to rockin’ tunes."
*The title in the headline was coined by journalist Andrew Harrison who is currently one of the regulars on the topical podcast The Bunker, He really should copyright or trademark it or whatever you can do to protect your brilliant ideas.
Harry Hill has recently launched a new podcast, also with Steve Brown providing the music. Harry Hill’s Noise is an 8-part series which sees Hill in a different location every episode and at some point, he’ll make a noise. It’s your job to predict the nature of Harry’s noise and when he will make it. After Harry has made his noise he won’t be making any further noises.
Part relaxation tape , part high concept tomfoolery, this is an all-round immersive audio experience – the perfect ambient accompaniment to whatever it is you’re doing - with the added attraction of..….a bespoke noise.…
