News: American TV Working On Version Of Jamie Demetriou Comedy Stath Lets Flats

Jamie Demetriou Appears In New American Comedy

The Fox network is working on an American version of Jamie Demetriou's critically acclaimed BAFTA-winning sitcom Stath Lets Flats.

Deadline has reported that the remake is to be called Bren Rents. It will be a single-camera comedy penned by The Good Place writer Joe Mande, who will also be executive producer, while Demetriou and Ash Atalla, who runs Roughcut TV, the production company that produces the show, will also be executive producers.

Deadline compares the original C4 version, created by and starring Jamie Demetriou as hapless lettings agent Stath, to The Office and Steve Coogan’s Alan Partridge.

Mande, who is also a familiar actor in American TV comedies, has also written for Parks and Recreation and the Kroll Show and was a producer on Aziz Ansari’s Master of None.

Fox Entertainment is also the company making a US version of This Country.

Jamie Demetriou wrote the first three episodes of the show with Friday Night Dinner creator Robert Popper, and wrote the rest of the episodes for series one and two by himself. A third series has been commissioned by Channel 4. The series also stars Demetriou's sister Natasia as his fictional sister Sophie.

Joining Jamie in reprising their roles in the third series are Natasia Demetriou (What We Do In The Shadows), Al Roberts (King Gary), Christos Stergioglou (Dogtooth), Katy Wix (Ghosts), Kiell Smith-Bynoe (Ghosts), and Ellie White (The Other One).

The six-part series will pick up from the shock cliff-hanger ending of series two, as incompetent letting agent Stath (Demetriou) is faced with rescuing the family business, Michael & Eagle, and his relationship with Katia, while expecting his first child by Carole. Meanwhile his sister, Sophie, and best friend, Al, deal with the fallout of finally declaring their feelings for each other.

Demetriou is also known for his appearance as 'bus rodent' in Fleabag.
