Next week is Burns Night but  suppose you could call tonight Barnes Night.Brighton-based comedian Angela Barnes appears on two panel shows this evening at the same time. She is on Mock The Week at 9.30pm, but if you can't wait that long she is also on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown in an hour-long show at 9pm.

8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown is one of those shows that doesn't get the credit it deserves. With its longer running time and light-hearted format it gives comedians a chance to flex their funny bones and mess around in a way that they don't get to do on more rigidly formatted shows.

They also get to show off their brains, of course, and anyone who saw Barnes win all five episodes of Richard Osman's House Of Games before Christmas will know already that she is not lacking in the grey matter department.

Barnes is on the same team as Jon Richardson. The other guest tonight on the opposing team with Sean Lock is Paul Foot, who is one of comedy's greatest oddballs. He was once in a double act with Russell Brand – now that's something I'd have liked to have seen. Foot might not be the funniest comedian in the world but he arguably has the funniest hairstyle.

And talking of hairstyles, the brilliant wordsmith John Cooper Clarke, whose barnet should be Grade II listed, is in Dictionary Corner alongside Susie Dent.

And Jimmy Carr hosts of course.
