The line-up has been announced for Rode Comedy Festival 2021 (9/09/21-12/09/21), with tickets just released. The exciting series of shows, featuring big names of comedy, and an Olivier Award winning West End show, solidifies Rode Comedy Festival’s reputation. All taking place open-air, beneath a stretch tent in a beautiful Somerset field.
Launching the festival on Thursday 9 September will be the Olivier Award-winning improvised musical Showstopper! The Musical, with an intimate performance of their West End show. The Showstoppers create a brand-new musical comedy from scratch as audience suggestions are transformed on the spot into all-singing, all-dancing productions with hilarious results.
Friday night will see the return of the fantastic and hilarious Scummy Mummies, with their brand-new show, and support from rising comedy star Daisy Earl.
On Saturday night Rode will present TV superstar presenter, comedian and best-selling author Joel Dommett. To close the festival on Sunday night, Jarred Christmas and beatboxer Hobbit will join forces to host an amazing line-up featuring comedy legend Stephen K Amos, star of Taskmaster and Man Down, Mike Wozniak and surreal genius Spencer Jones.
Each event will be hosted by Kiwi Somerset-local Jarred Christmas (one half of Pop-Up Comedy). Jarred says “We are so excited to bring you some of the very best performers on the comedy scene, from the top theatres and comedy clubs in the UK, to a very lovely field in Somerset.”
Now in its second year, Rode Comedy Festival launched last September in response to the catastrophic effects of the pandemic on the comedy industry. Amelia and Jarred Christmas, of Somerset based Pop-Up Comedy, saw an opportunity to run a small and accessible open-air Covid- afe comedy festival, making up for months of restrictions on performances, and large events.
Working with their friends Emma and James Burton at Pitch Perfect Camping, and the team at The Cross Keys Rode, the concept took off, and became a sell-out success hosting big name comedians. Headliners for 2020 included stadium level comedians whose national tours had been postponed – including Russell Kane and Russell Howard.
Pop-Up Comedy run comedy shows throughout the area and further afield in lovely village pubs, theatres and more unique unexpected venues. As well as Rode Comedy Festival, they have a programme of open-air comedy shows throughout the summer, booking now on popupcomedy.org.
Rode Comedy Festival runs from 9th to 12th September 2021
