Last year’s Open Air Theatre shows were a monumental success with both shows selling-out and raising over £7,000. Canned Laughter will again be partnering with renowned comedy producers Berk’s Nest, for a return to one of London’s most iconic outdoor spaces, The Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
Now more than ever, food banks are in need of our support. Between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 2021, a record 2.5 million emergency food parcels were given to people in crisis by food banks in the Trussell Trust network. More than 14 million people in the UK live below the poverty line and the rise in food bank referrals has risen by 128% in the last five years. Profits from both shows will go directly to supporting London food banks within the Trussell Trust’s nationwide network and help build a hunger free future in the UK.
Kenny Tanner, Co-Founder of Canned Laughter, said: “After the phenomenal success of last year’s shows, it feels like a dream to be able to do this again with our friends at Berk’s Nest. We feel especially grateful to be able to provide a platform and raise awareness and funds for The Trussell Trust and London food banks, after this last year”.
Owen Donovan, Berk’s Nest Managing Director, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Canned Laughter again. These shows feature some of our very favourite acts, and Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre is an incredible space that allows us to get live comedy back up and running”.
Emma Revie, Chief Executive of the Trussell Trust said: “We are so grateful for the team at Canned Laughter and Berk’s Nest for choosing to support our work yet again this August. In the last year, food banks in our network provided record numbers of emergency food parcels as more and more people struggle to afford the essentials. This is not right but we know this can change. We’re delighted that Canned Laughter and Berk’s Nest are standing with us to build a hunger free future – a future where everyone can afford the basics.”
