 Comedy Tonight

Now that Mock The Week has finished its latest run, BBC One and BBC Two is having to rely on repeats for its Thursday night comedy content.

Luckily a rerun Would I Lie To You? (8.30pm, BBC One) is preferable to a lot of new comedies. Rob Brydon, David Mitchell and Lee Mack are joined by Jo Brand, Simon Day, Kiri Pritchard-McLean and Henning Wehn in the game of comedy call my bluff.

Then at 10pm there's a repeated Live at the Apollo on BBC Two. In this highlights pckage cherry picking routines that focus on a particular theme  John Bishop, Sarah Millican, Phil Wang, Ellie Taylor, Ed Byrne, Angela Barnes, Gary Delaney, Tom Stade and Laura Lexx offer their thoughts on relationships. Oh, and by the way, congratulations to Laura Lexx, whose book, Klopp Actually has just been nominated for CLOC Football Book of the Year, in association with the FWA Longlist 2021.

If you want new comedy there is the funny, feisty We Are Lady Parts about a spiky female band attempting to make it in the messy music business, Although if you know what is good for you you will have already watched the whole series on All4.

Or you could go digital. Panel show fans can get the funny film fix in There's Something About Movies on Sky One at 9pm. Host Alan Carr and team captains Michael Sheen and Jennifer Saunders and regular Tom Allen are joined by guests Nish Kumar, Kevin Bridges and David Tennant.

Then there's the current series of Breeders on Sky One at 10pm which is excellent even if at times it feels as if the laughs are taking second place to the drama of parenthood. Worth a look just to be jealous of Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard's cool house. I do fear for one of the kids catching themselves on one of the hard edges though.

There are more giggles to be had in Sliced on Dave, starring Samson Kayo, also in Bloods, and Theo Barklem-Biggs. Pizza based comedy that delivers.

And if you do want to watch a repeat there's another perfect option - the Imagine documentary about Mel Brooks on BBC4 at 9pm. It's followed by Blazing Saddles. The BBC had better brace itself for complaints unless they cut out all the non-woke bits. In which case the running time will be about eleven minutes.
