A 30-second trailer has been released to promote the forthcoming television series starring Dapper Laughs. His new series, Dapper Laughs: On The Pull, starts on ITV2 at 10.30pm, on Monday, September 29.
The controversial comedian, whose real name is Daniel O’Reilly, has built up a major following by regularly releasing Vines, tweeting and posting pictures on Instagram. Many of them involve him making lewd, laddish comments about women or bragging about his own sexual prowess. Earlier this year he released a single to coincide with his last tour 'Proper Moist', which got to number 15 in the charts. He had said that if it got into the top ten he would have a party with midgets, booze and naked people.
This October he sets out on his new 'Socially Unacceptable' tour and says that he is aiming to show that he has changed. He told thestudentpocketguide that “it is gonna be a little bit more in-depth. More intelligent and a little bit more about the journey of being socially unacceptable. Pushing boundaries and the comedy associated with it. So it’s gonna step away from the misogynistic sexual side of things.”
Whether this tour and the ITV2 show will signal a new, more reflective side remains to be seen, however. When the trailer was released others comedians who are more used to playing comedy gigs than club nights were quick to put the boot in on social media. Daniel Sloss wrote on Twitter: “Dapper Laughs is to comedy what Dapper Laughs is to women.” Adam Kay added: "I feel like @dapperlaughs is the “Sliding Doors” version of me, if I’d had an enormous cerebral aneurysm knocking out my sense of humour.” Dapper Laughs himself tweeted: “Comedians and their handbags... Ow dear..”
