Romesh Ranganathan Says He Would Not Make A Good Doctor Who

BBC One Sitcom For Romesh Ranganathan

Romesh Ranganathan has clarified that he is not throwing his hat into the ring to be the new Doctor Who.

Talking on BBC One's The One Show, where Doctor Who star Alex Kingston was also appearing, the former schoolteacher explained that he had been asked on a press junket if he thought he would make a better James Bond or Doctor Who. He replied Doctor Who because his mum had always wanted him to be a Doctor and some members of the press took a joke seriously. And not for the first time...

Romesh Ranganathan was a guest on the programme to alk about taking over from Anne Robinson as the host of the Weakest Link. He revealed that he tries not to watch himself on television so only watched it for the edit and has not watched it when it went out.

He says the response has been "unbelievable." His wife Leesa could not believe he'd been offered the job.

When he was announced as the new host he said: "It is the first time I’ve presented a quiz show, and if I am being absolutely honest it was never on my list of things I thought I was going to be doing, but then when The Weakest Link came up and I looked at it, I thought it is a great format and you can have fun with it, so it felt like if I was going to do one, this would be the one to do. It is such an iconic show, and such a bulletproof, and addictive quiz format, it felt like a no brainer! It is probably the most excited my wife has been about a show I’ve done, she doesn’t watch much of what I do but when I told her they were thinking about me for this, she was so excited, she almost questioned whether I was the right booking to be honest! "

Ranganathan was recently in the news after allegedly encounterung a racist heckler at his Eventim Apollo gig. Watch a clip of the incident below. Ranganathan is currently touring his hit show, The Cynic's Mixtape. He did talk on the programme about gigging in front of members of the royal family and his mum worrying that if he said the wrong thing they would be deported.
