Some of Britain’s best comedians are to go head-to-head to win the award for ‘Britain’s Best Toilet Joke’. Milton Jones, Lucy Porter, Arthur Smith, Helen Lederer, Paul Foot, Tim Key, John Cooper Clarke, Jo Caulfield, Alex Horne, Bec Hill, Patrick Monahan, Carl Donnelly, Matt Forde, Paul McCaffrey, and Tom Shillue will be taking part in the competition, in aid of charity Water Aid, to win the coveted Golden Loo Seat.
The lav-based funnies are available to watch and vote for online at: www.wateraid.org/uk/itsnojoke. The competition runs from Monday November 3 - Tuesday, November 18, with the winning joke announced on World Toilet Day, Wednesday, November 19.
Britain is known for its love of toilet humour. But for many millions of people around the world toilets are no laughing matter. A shocking 2.5 billion people – one in three of the world’s population – do not have access to a safe, private toilet. Many have no choice but to face the indignity of going to the toilet in the open, where they are exposed to disease and vulnerable to harassment and even attack. This is a serious issue that can be hard to talk about – so let’s overcome our embarrassment and use comedy to get the nation talking about toilets.
Comedian Helen Lederer (pictured) said: “It’s No Joke that one in three people don’t have access to a toilet. While we Brits love a bit of toilet humour, when it comes to talking toilets we get stage fright. Let’s lift the lid on this serious issue. I’ve always wanted the perfect platform for my potty mouth and here it is: dirty gags = clean toilets. So support WaterAid this World Toilet Day and vote for your favourite toilet joke!”
In support of the competition WaterAid will host the first-ever It’s No Joke! Comedy Festival featuring comedy gigs, workshops, quizzes and even toilet discos all held in former public lavatories across London. This unique 4 day festival will run from November 16 - 19, featuring comedy from Helen Lederer, Bec Hill, Harriet Kemsley, James Loveridge, Faye Treacy and more, a workshop from acclaimed comedian Logan Murray, pop-up comedy from aspiring performers and even a toilet disco finale.
