Anglesey-based comedian Kiri Pritchard-McLean returns for a brand new series of Kiri’s TV Flashback, in which she turns back time to unearth some of Wales’ most weird and wonderful clips from over 50 years of television history.
In the first episode of the new series, Kiri is digging through the archives to celebrate some of her favourite icons in Wales. She begins by taking a look back at the launch of BBC Radio Wales, in November 1978, featuring presenter Anita Morgan, alongside one of her guests on that day – a singing parrot.
One clip from 1975 pays a visit to Conwy to see The Smallest House in Great Britain, an iconic sight that thousands of visitors would visit each year. With the downstairs lounge measuring only 183cm in height, things take an amusing turn when Christopher Greener, Britain’s tallest man at over 7 foot, pays a visit to take a look inside.
Other iconic archive clips include gliding lessons in Usk, a national laverbread shortage and Iolo Williams examining Llandrindod Wells’ annual week-long Victorian Festival.
Monday, 13 June, BBC One Wales, 8.30pm. Viewers with iPlayer anywhere will be able to watch on catch-up.
