2Northdown has launched its fourth New Act Competition, kicking off in September 2022, following Dee Allum’s victory last year. Other 2021 finalists included Vidura Rajapaksa, Jack Chisnall, Sally Ann Fellowes & Paddy Young. The competition is open to all types of comedy, with sketch, character and alternative acts encouraged to apply.
Starting on Monday 6th September 2022, contestants will compete in heats, with the winners progressing to semi-finals and then onto the Grand Final. There’s also the chance for the audience to save an act they think deserves another shot in the ‘Wild Card’ round! Heats will run until 31st October, with semi-finals on the 14th & 21st November, leading up to the Grand Final on the 28th November 2022.
Acts will be scored on their writing, performance, originality, innovation and star quality. The comics ranked highest by both the audience and our hand-picked panel of industry judges (including representatives from Off The Kerb, Ebdon Management, Country Mile Productions, United Agents and more) will progress to the next stage.
The annual competition, now in it’s 4th year, has seen past winners go on to do great things in the comedy world, including Leo Reich support Simon Amstell on his UK tour, Katie Pritchard win The Musical Comedy Award, and reigning winner Dee Allum being chosen for the 2022 Pleasance Comedy Reserve.
The winner’s prize includes £500, a paid spot on one of 2Northdown’s sister venue 21Soho’s monthly nights, a free hour long preview at 2Northdown in preparation for The Edinburgh Fringe, plus other exciting prizes.
Applicants must be 18+, must not have been performing regularly for more than 5 years, and must not yet have made their Edinburgh Fringe debut.
