This Thursday 6th October, Secret Artists podcast returns with host comedian Annie McGrath and a brilliant line-up of guests. Series four opens with one of the stars of the new series of Taskmaster, Edinburgh Comedy Award double-winner John Kearns. Other guests confirmed for the new series include: Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Emily Lloyd-Saini, Sara Barron, Sam Fletcher, Bella Hull, Tom Stourton, Leo Reich, and more.
The premise of Secret Artists is funny people doing art. McGrath’s guest brings their chosen muse, and together they create their own piece of art whilst chatting all things art, comedy and life. The podcast offers a different format to the standard comedy interview podcast, and aims to celebrate the act of painting, whilst breaking down the idea that art is exclusionary.
Secret Artists podcast launched in 2019 when it was named one of the Evening Standard’s Best New Podcasts. It has since amassed an impressive and enthusiastic following, reaching over 100,000 downloads. It was recommended by podcast king, Adam Buxton, and has frequently been recommended in the national press by such publications as The Guardian, The Times, Esquire, and iNews. The podcast was featured in The Art Newspaper’s Top Culture Podcasts, where it was described as “a hugely enjoyable podcast” where “philosophical nuggets emerge unexpectedly amid off-the-cuff conversations.”
Over sixty episodes of Secret Artists are already available, with a stellar line-up of guests including: Phil Wang, Katy Wix, Alex Horne, Rhys James, Harriet Kemsley, Mae Martin, Jamie Demetriou, Lolly Adefope, Brett Goldstein, Lou Sanders, Fern Brady, Kim Noble, Delightful Sausage, Tom Allen, Nish Kumar, Joe Lycett, Nina Conti, Joel Dommett, Hannah Cooper and more.
“I love doing Secret Artists and being able to chat to interesting people whilst painting. Listeners say they find it relaxing which is nice; there’s a slightly slower pace to the podcast than with most interviews. Guests are distracted by the process of creating, so they often open up more than they might otherwise. Basically, I’m tricking people into telling me their secrets, under the guise of something more highbrow.”- Annie McGrath
