The netflix series After Life has picked up the Best Comedy prize at the National Television Awards. The show's creator and star Ricky Gervais went onstage to collect the award onstage alongside cast members including Tony Paul Way, Diane Morgan, Jo Hartley and Tom Basden.
Gervais received the award from Matt Lucas and thanked everyone and kept his acceptance speech short, explaining that his feet were killing him.
He later tweeted a picture holding the award at home and saying "It’s going on the shelf! " – alongside his Baftas, plus another picture of him celebrating by cuddling his cat.
The Special Recognition Award went to Sir Lenny Henry, honouring his nearly 50 years on television. Previous winners include David Tennant and Billy Connolly.
