Clive Myrie was pulled from last Friday's edition of the BBC's News At Ten at the last minute following an appearance earlier in the evening hosting Have I Got News For You.
Myrie was due to front both prgrammes but according to The Times, a decision was taken over fears of an anti-Tory bias after Myrie had made a number of jokes about Boris Johnson on the long running satirical quiz, which had been pre-recorded before Johnson resigned as an MP.
Myrie had quipped on the show featuring Paul Merton and Ian Hislop: "After being found by the House of Commons committee to have lied repeatedly, Boris Johnson takes the opportunity to deny that he’s ever been jogging or has a dog.” Film was then shown of the ex-prime minister running.
Amid fears of accusations of impartiality Myrie was replaced to read the news by Jane Hill. The Times quotes an insider as saying: "There wasn’t a specific joke which triggered the request. It was more to do with concerns that Clive was doing two very different types of programme within an hour of each other. There was possibly a bit of over-caution, which felt a bit over the top to most people in news.”
This was the fourth time that Myrie has hosted the satirical quiz but the first time it has resulted in him being pulled off.
