Comedian Donates Gig Proceeds To Flood Relief Efforts
In light of the devastating floods in Slovenia, Philipp Kostelecky who is of Austrian, Slovenian and American heritage, is going to donate proceeds from his gigs on Thursday and Friday to relief efforts.
Kostelecky says:
"I grew up in Slovenia. It is a beautiful country and unique in so many ways. Although Slovenia is part of Central Europe it is often perceived to be part of Eastern Europe, and so news stories from this region are often overlooked. However, Slovenia has now faced the worst flooding in its history. Experiencing a month's worth of rainfall over the course of just two days, thousands of people have been displaced from their homes, with irreversible damage to infrastructure amounting to approx £1-2billion euros in damages.
"Slovenia is a small country with only two million people, the majority of whom make their living through tourism. In addition to human cost, severe flooding at the height of summer tourism will have a devastating impact on the country’s economy which is only just starting to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
"To raise awareness, I have decided to donate all of the proceeds from my Edinburgh Fringe shows at The Stand on Thursday and Friday (August 10th and 11th) to relief efforts in the country. The shows on those two days will also have some extra material about Slovenia and a different outro song. I will also be standing outside at the show's end with a donation bucket and card reader if people want to make any additional donations.
