Joe Lycett has said that he will attend the Baftas dressed as Queen Elizabth I after losing a bet to his Aunties on his Channel 4 Late Night Lycett show.
Lycett issued a challenge to his aunties to notch up 100,000 Instagram followers and he thought they would never do it so said if they did he would wear the clothes of the Virgin Queen next Sunday.
Sure enough his 'Late Night Aunties' met the target after a vigorous publicity campaign drumming up support and followers via radio and online appearances. Lycett posted on X how hard they were working: "They’re out of control. They’re doing press interviews, they’ve been on Heart, Gaydio. They’ve got a host of celebrity fans including Craig Revel Horwood, Katherine Ryan, Rosie Jones, Gaby Roslin, Rylan, Wilf from The Traitors and Greg James’s dog.
Lycett announced the outcome on X, which was formerly known as Twitter:
"I am truly exhausted. To catch you up, last week my aunties started their own Instagram and wanted to get 100k followers. I said they’d never do it. If they did, I promised I’d go to the BAFTAs dressed as Queen Elizabeth I. Obviously, they fucking went and did it."
Lycett is now on the hunt for a suitable outfit.
