Rhys James is set to release his latest comedy special, ‘Spilt Milk’, as a direct-to-fan stream.
Filmed at London’s Wilton’s Music Hall in 2023 as part of a sell-out, two-leg UK tour, the special will be available for fans to stream direct from Rhys’s website for £5. It will be released on Thursday 7th November 2024.
Rhys said: “It’s always been my dream to release a direct-to-fans streamable special on my website, ever since Netflix said no.”
The special will also be available as a limited edition DVD – one single copy will be produced, titled ‘Rhys James: Live Humour!’, and made available for sale in a mystery charity shop, for 50p.
Rhys said: "Any 'so called comedian' with a tripod can have a special these days. But only the most famous comics in the country have DVDs. So in order to join them, I'm doing the same and releasing a DVD of my own. Exactly one. Into the only place you can still buy stand-up DVDs, a random mystery charity shop."
Rhys will provide clues on social media as to which charity shop fans may be able to find and purchase the DVD in, for a generous 90% saving on the price of the online stream.
Rhys has also generously agreed to match the sale in a donation to the charity shop.
Like everyone in their thirties, Rhys is now free from the burden of his own potential, never to be called ‘young’ for an achievement again, unless that achievement is dying. Or gout.
Now older and wiser, Rhys has realised the key to improving society is giving New Years Resolutions to each other, rather than ourselves. And so, after giving a lucky audience member the perfect resolution for their own life, Rhys sets them the task of writing a resolution for him. They have until the end of the show.
In the meantime, they can watch as Rhys lambasts his Premier League footballer namesake, gives Wim Hof both barrels, deep dives into the Flawless vs. Diversity street dance rivalry of Britain’s Got Talent 2009, explains how marriage is soon to die out completely, beats Ernest Hemingway at his own game, and accidentally enacts the perfect revenge on a burglar.
Rhys's sardonic wit combined with his playful style have made him a firm favourite on the British comedy scene. He's a "master of the lightning-paced, gag-dense, precision-delivered set" (The Guardian), as showcased in his six critically acclaimed sell-out solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
One of the final Mock The Week regulars and star of Live At The Apollo, Rhys toured ‘Spilt Milk’ throughout 2023, selling out over 70 dates nationwide, including a week at that year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Clips of Rhys’s comedy have garnered over 100 million views on Instagram alone.
In 2024, Rhys wrote and presented a second series of his acclaimed BBC Radio 4 show ‘Rhysearch’, investigating topics the rest of us are too busy to be bothered with, including ‘Why Can’t I Concentrate?’, ‘Do We Need School?’ and ‘Are There Enough Babies?’.
He also co-wrote ‘Dial F for Football’, a comedy podcast series that went behind the scenes of the most popular fictional sport radio station in the country – Totalsport FM.
Rhys James has also appeared on Richard Osman’s House Of Games (dressing gown, luggage, decanter), Celebrity Mastermind (The US Office, 3rd place) and Pointless Celebrities (wore a tuxedo, out in round 2). Reece James has won the Champions League.
