Actor Timothy West has died. He was 90.
In a long acting career he played a number of major straight dramatic roles such as Bolingbroke in Richard II and notched up appearances in Macbeth and Day of the Jackal, but also featured in a number of comedies including Not Going Out where he played the original Geoffrey Adams and Inside No 9. He was one of the stars of the very first Inside No 9 episode, Sardines (pictured). He was also one of the few actors to appear in both EastEnders and Coronation Street.
After West's son, actor Samuel West, posted the news on X Steve Pemberton of Inside No 9 replied: "This is so sad, thinking of you and your family. What an incredible life he led and so much joy brought to so many people. It was an honour to spend a little time working with him"
He was the star of north-based comedy-drama Brass from 1982 - 1990 and co-starred with his wife Prunella Scales in the sitcom After Henry.
In 2019 he played Private Godfrey in Dad's Army: The Lost Episodes.
He also appeared in one of the most famous Tales of the Unexpected episodes, Royal Jelly.
