In 2020, Daniel had the idea to film the entire evolutionary process of creating brand new material to make up the new show he was creating. Long term collaborator, housemate, and Cinematographer Troy Edige followed Daniel and his evolving jokes from the first idea at the kitchen table to the pre-pandemic try outs of what were then still just raw ideas in Edinburgh to the February “work-in-progress” seasons in New York and Los Angeles, getting back home to Scotland just before the world locked down, through the pandemic socially distanced shows in London carparks (which of course were in the rain), to being quarantined in a Sydney hotel before being allowed to tour Australia and all the way through to full blown global touring as the lock downs were gradually lifted.
The new jokes being honed and finetuned, became a powerful new show called HUBRIS and Daniel became the first comedian back touring at scale with the HUBRIS tour becoming a global smash-hit. The entertainment industry’s data bible Pollstar’s mid-year report listed HUBRIS as 2021’s biggest global comedy show and the 5th biggest ticket selling event overall including outdoor festivals.
‘Daniel Sloss: HUBRIS’ was filmed in Scotland on Saturday 28 August 2021, at Glasgow’s much-loved and iconic SEC Armadillo venue (officially known as the Scottish Event Campus) in front of a still-masked audience that were witness to the first large scale indoor events since the pandemic. Despite the challenges, the special is an unsurpassed 75 minutes of brilliant live stand-up, beautifully captured on film by Cinematographer Troy Edige.
