Jimeoin is back on tour with his 24 carat laugh-out-loud comedy show WHO'S YOUR MAN?!. The star of ‘The Royal Variety Performance’, ‘Live at the Apollo’, ‘Sunday Night at the Palladium’, and NBC's ‘Conan O’Brien’ has clocked up hundreds of millions of views of his comedy clips... but still nothing beats seeing this observational maestro live-in-action. He talks exclusively about his latest show and his life as a comic below.
Jimeoin's latest run of UK shows starts on February 27 at Malvern Forum Theatre and currently finishes with two nights at Glasgow Kings Theatre on March 14 & 15. Full dates and ticket links here.
What is the last thing you do before you go onstage (apart from check your flies and/or check your knickers aren't sticking out of your skirt and check for spinach between your teeth)?
Check my wallet and check my phone is turned off. I have a recording device on it and record the show. It’s often muffled as the phone is in my pocket. To be honest, I very rarely listen to it.
What irritates you?
The older I get the more things irritate me. Don’t get me started.
What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done?
Gone on stage with a handful of average jokes
What is the most stupid thing you have ever done?
Gone on stage with a handful of average jokes
What has surprised you the most during your career in comedy?
The length of it. Really can’t believe that I’m still getting away with it. Music careers never last this long. Truly, truly thankful.
What do your parents/children (delete as applicable) think of your job?
They can’t believe I’m getting away with the shit for so long too. When they were young, they loved it. Slightly embarrassed about me in their teenage years.
What’s the worst thing about being a comedian?
Repeating yourself,
I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m asking these questions). What do you think of you?
I’m embarrassed by myself. I think I’m an idiot lot of the times. But then that’s where I get my act from.
How much do you earn and how much would you like to earn?
I earned enough, but apparently everyone would like to have at least a third more of what their wealth is. I would love a third more.
How important is luck in terms of career success – have you had lucky breaks?
Loads of luck. But I feel that any time luck has come my way I have been prepared and ready to capitalise on it.
Alan Davies has said that comedians fall into two categories - golfers and self-harmers. The former just get on with life, the latter are tortured artists. Which are you – or do you think you fit into third category?
I play golf and I often suffer from self-inflicted wounds so maybe that’s the third category
Who is your favourite person ever and why – not including family or friends or other comedians?
Pope John Paul II. Not the first one he was no fun.
Do you keep your drawers tidy and if not why not? (please think long and hard about this question, it's to settle an argument with my girlfriend. The future of our relationship could depend on your response)?
I have a song called the third drawer from the top. About it always being full of shit. And the fourth drawer has got plastic bags in it. Have a listen to it it might settle the argument.
