His joke “I did my driving test in Luton. My driving instructor asked me to pull over whenever it was safe to do so. I drove to Cambridge” was one of seven shortlisted by a local comedy industry panel before winning a poll across the station’s audience.
Alex wins the award plus a prize of £106.90 and free entry to next year’s Nottingham Comedy Festival which will presented on Saturday at his show Alex Mitchell: ‘Tough’ is at The VAT and Fiddle, Saturday 8th November at 8pm https://wegottickets.com/event/669489/ .

Based in Ashfield in north Nottinghamshire, the community youth radio station has partnered with the Nottingham Comedy Festival to create the first joke of the festival award in the 17 years of the festival.
Nick Mellors, a volunteer at Takeover Radio 106.9 said: “We’re delighted to be able to support the wonderful Nottingham Comedy Festival and to thank Alex for all the laughter he gave our judges and audiences. We're really proud to be able to use comedy to help put our community in Ashfield on the map, and to show that we will not allow communities like ours to continue to be overlooked and to show that our young people can and do have a part to play in the creative industries of our country."
