There are two comedians taking part in this week's run of Richard Osman's House Of Games. Though I'm sure there will be a wag out there who will say 'who is the other comedian apart from Vittorio Angelone?' In case you were wondering I was also referring to Paddy McGuinness.
Anyway, as everyone seems to know about Paddy McGuinness and already has either a likey or no likey opinion about him, let's home in on the lesser known Vittorio Angelone. Though if you watch your comedy on social media you may well know him already as he has built up a huge following for his online clips.
In fact Angelone's next tour includes a show at the 4000 capacity Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, even though he does not have much of a TV profile. Maybe he is hoping that his perforance on this week's House of Games will help to boost his tour ticket sales.
His latest solo stand-up show you can’t Say Nothing any more is great. I saw it at the Edinburgh Fringe and was surprised it did not seem to be in the running for the major Edinburgh Comedy Award. In the show, Angelone drills down into his family history – as the name suggests he has Italian roots but grew up in Belfast during the turbulent Troubles. His great grandfather ran a famous ice cream parlour, Victor's Cafe, which was burnt down.
Angelone tells this story and somehow finds the funny side of this difficult historical period. He's a pretty fearless comedian, prepared to go to some difficult places but also happy to send himself up. He has lost a lot of weight in recent years and you could say that there is not a spare ounce of fat on his body or in his comedy.
