Sitcom star Richard o'Sullivan has died. He was 82.

O'Sullivan had started out as a child actor in British films but rose to prominence as the male star of ITV's flatsharing sitcom Man About the House alongside Sally Thomsett and Pauls Wilcox.

He then went on to continue as the same character, Robin Tripp, in the bistrot-based comedy Robin's Nest with Tessa Wyatt.

O'Sullivan continued to star on TV shows fronting the comedy Me and my Girl. He has lived in Brinsworth House, the Royal Variety Charity's care home for a number of years.

His son James has issued a statement via the charity: "My dad was as funny and charming in real life as he appeared on our TV screens over the years.

"Always kind-spirited, good humoured, a doting grandfather and a wonderful dad – I will miss him dearly.

"Although much of his career happened before I was born, I was fortunate enough to be able to enjoy and witness his incredible talents on the countless re-runs of his shows that made him the respected and loved actor that he was."
