Rowan Atkinson Live Shows Classic Sketches

Rowan Atkinson is to return to the stage to perform sketch comedy in 2027.

Atkinson, now 71, will star in a run of shows at the Gillian Lynne Theatre and will be doing a mix of new sketches and old routines created with long-term collaborators Richard Curtis, Ben Elton and Howard Goodall,

He said: “It is 40 years since I last did a comedy sketch show in the West End,” said Atkinson. “I thought it would be fun to perform again the sketches that began it all for myself and [writer] Richard Curtis, and in which my most well-known characters originated, alongside some surprise new material written especially for this show.”

Richard Curtis said:“I first saw Rowan perform on stage in 1976, 50 years ago - and it was instantly clear to all of us that we were watching a unique, once in a lifetime talent. 50 years later, this summer, we started putting this show together in front of a small audience, and all that magic, that unique accuracy and comic genius is still there for all to see. It’s such a joy and honour for me to be part of a show that will include the very best of Rowan on stage - all his voices, shapes, faces and characters. I hope it will make people very happy.”

Rowan Live will be directed by Raz Shaw and music is by Howard Goodall.

Atkinson first made his name as a member if the Not The Nine O'Clocl News team with Mel Smith, Griff Rhys Jones and Pamela Stephenson. He has also starred as spoof spy Johnny English in the successful film franchise.

He is best known for his roles as Blackadder in the long running historical sitcom and as Mr Bean in the globally successful physical comedy which also spawned films and an animated series. In 2012 he performed at the Olympic opening ceremony in London and also performed more recently onstage in 2018 at the 70th birthday show in honour of the then Prince Charles.

The shows will take place at the Gillian Lynne Theatre from 8 February to 13 March, 2027.
