Last time I saw Marcus Brigstocke in Edinburgh it nearly didn’t happen. He was demonstrating one of the moves he used to do as a dancer in his pre-stand-up days and he fell down and injured his leg. Like the trouper he is he carried on with crutches and even did more dancing at the end. That show was a personal one, in which Brigstocke put politics aside to talk about his time working on oil rigs, having an eating disorder and, erm, being a dancer. This year he has got back on the satire train in Why The Long Face?. According to his blurb: “I was born with a long face and now there's UKIP and Putin and being single and Islamic State and George Osborne and Paul Dacre of the Daily bastard Mail and tax dodging corporations and the bloody election and did I mention being single?” In other words, there’s plenty of politics, because god knows there’s plenty of politics to joke about these days, and he will also be shedding some light on life after marriage. It doesn't really matter what Brigstocke talks about though, if you want laughs you can be pretty sure you are going to get plenty when he is onstage. Even when he is not falling over.
Marcus Brigstocke is at the Red Imp Club, E17 tonight with Alistair Barrie, tickets here, and at the Assembly Hall from Aug 6 - 30, tickets here.
