I’ve never quite been able to get a handle on Joseph Morpurgo because he has done so many different brilliant things. All I’m sure about is that he is prodigiously talented. He must be because he works with uber-cool tastemakers Invisible Dot. Morpurgo’s inventive Edinburgh show last year, Odessa, found him playing all the characters in a noirish crime comedy inspired by some banal found footage from American TV. He is also part of the Austentatious impro crew who create Austen novels based on audience suggestions. He has not really done the usual round of TV shows as himself, but comedy fans will have probably seen him on Harry & Paul’s BBC2 tribute last year in which Morpurgo played Noel Fielding in their brilliant panel games mash-up. This year’s solo Fringe show, Soothing Sounds For Baby is packed with “excavated vinyl and throttled hyperkonzept”. I haven't got a clue what that means. Can’t wait to find out.
Joseph Morpurgo is at the Under One Roof Festival tonight with Beard and Fan Fiction Comedy, tickets here, and at The Pleasance from Aug 5 - 31, tickets here.
