Sometimes the Fringe coverage is so obsessed with unearthing someone new that polished talent can be overlooked. Tom Allen has seen plenty of Edinburgh action since winning So You Think You’re Funny in 2005 at the age of 22. As well as bringing successful shows to Scotland has also been busy elsewhere, taking his sophisticated, classy comedy to festivals, radio and TV. This lover of Noel Coward is due to appear in Dictionary Corner on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown in August. The dapper wit's style is camp and accessible, drawing favourable comparisons with Frankie Howerd and Kenneth Williams and he also deserves your attention because he is a hard worker. As well as doing a new show, Both Worlds, about “truth and perception, having and not having, politeness and impoliteness” he is doing a late night chat show, Everyone’s Talking At Tom Allen at The Pleasance. Maybe this will be the year that everyone will be talking about Tom Allen.
Tom Allen is at The Cutty Sark tonight with Maddy Anholt, tickets here, and at The Stand from Aug 5 - 30, tickets here.
