Tributes have continued to pour in following the announcement of the death of Frank Kelly yesterday. The Irish actor, who was most famous for playing Father Jack in Father Ted, had been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease last year. He was 77. By a coincidence he died exactly 18 years after the death of his sitcom co-star Dermot Morgan.
“Terribly sad news. Thanks for everything, Frank,” said Father Ted's co-creator Graham Linehan, while fellow creator Arthur Mathews tweeted: "Sad news. Comedy legend. So thrilled we had him in Fr Ted."
Speaking on the radio Pauline McLynn, alias Mrs Doyle, started crying as she spoke about Kelly on Today FM: “I knew I was going to cry. Bloody hell. He’d kill me if he heard this. For us now to have lived at a time when we could have a bit of him we don’t know our luck. I really don’t believe we will see his like again.”
Ardal O'Hanlon said: "If there was a Mount Rushmore to Irish entertainment, he'd be on it".
David Schneider tweeted: "You made us laugh a lot."
Actor David Morrissey pointed out that there was more to Kelly than just “Drink! Feck! Arse!”. He tweeted: "Sad news about Frank Kelly. I know Father Ted was the thing everyone knew him for. I worked with him on The Deal and he was such a great guy."
