Comedy festival Just For Laughs has announced the winners of this year's Just For Laughs Awards on the eve of this year's festival in Montreal.

Aziz Ansari has been named as Comedy Person of the Year. In recent years Ansari has had a Netflix hit with his show Master of None, has published a book, Modern Romance, and has sold out Madison Square Garden. 

Sebastian Maniscalco has been named as Stand-Up Comedian of the Year. Maniscalco has several major motion picture appearances in the pipeline, including The House (starring Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler), indie drama Cruise, and a voice-over role in the animated feature Nut Job 2. His third stand up special airs on Showtime this autumn.

Maria Bamford is Breakout Comedy Star of the Year and Mike Judge and Alec Berg (Silicon Valley) are the Comedy Writers of the Year. Bamford is a seasoned stand up and is currently best known as the star of Netflix comedy Lady Dynamite. Judge and Berg have a comedy pedigree that between them takes in working on hits including King of the Hill, Office Space, Idiocracy, Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

The winners will receive their awards at the Just For Laughs Awards Show presented by Air Canada, and hosted by JB Smoove, on Friday, July 29 at 4:30 pm at the Grand Salon Opera, Hyatt Regency Montreal.
