1. What is the last thing you do before you go onstage (apart from check your flies and/or check your knickers aren't sticking out of your skirt and check for spinach between your teeth)?

There’s a lovely story about Buzz Aldrin who, on his return to earth, was naturally invited onto a lot of US talk shows. Back then they were transmitted live, and as the opening titles rolled he would lean in and whisper to the presenter, “Don’t mention the moon”.

I like to take a leaf from his book and try to instil a tiny bit of panic as I walk on. To the Chief Exec who’s introducing me on stage at the corporate, a quick “Racism’s fine but no swearing, right?”. To the club promoter, “I’m just doing five minutes, yeah?”. To the theatre stage manager on a tour show, “Start the dry ice”.

2. What irritates you?

My boyfriend

3. What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done?

Answer the previous question truthfully

4. What is the most stupid thing you have ever done?

Physically - fallen off a bike when drunk and broken two wrists and an elbow. Professionally - got unbooked from a big writing job when the producer looked back through my Twitter feed and saw a joke I’d posted slagging off the lead.

5. What has surprised you the most during your career in comedy?

When I read your Rarely Asked Questions features, a popular answer to this one seems to be “That I still have one”. I agree. That those comedians still have one.
