Update 13/11: Despite suggesting we take the rumours with a pinch of salt Danny Baker may be joining this year's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. His Twitter feed recently said: "Man with no phone goes out all day – no tweets. Another long one tomorrow too." Followers responded by speculating that he was on a long flight to join the programme, which starts on ITV1 this evening. Also on the Paddy Power website Baker is currently second favourite to win at 4/1 behind Gogglebox star Scarlet Moffatt....

Writer and broadcaster Danny Baker has tantalised his followers on Twitter about his rumoured appearance on the forthcoming series of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

After stories appeared in the press today suggesting that he was not only appearing in the series but that he was the most highly paid person ever to appear in it he tried to reassure his colleagues by tweeting: "Sitting here seeing I am going in the Jungle next week. Chums, the very idea is preposterous. And to people I'm now working with: calm down."

He then posted a picture of himself upside down holding a glass of wine, with the caption "Ok, you got me. Here I am in Australia. #JungleBoy". The picture appeared to be a new one and appeared to have been taken in his south London house. A copy of the comedy book by John Fisher, Funny Way To Be A Hero, can be seen on the bookshelf behind him, so it did not look like an Australian hotel. 

Baker then continued to offer further hints on Twitter: "To be fair, I did have talks with #IACGMOOH this year but when I said my luxury item had to be a case of white wine the fuckers backed out."
