Tommy Sheppard, who established the chain of Stand Comedy Clubs, has announced that he is seeking the nomination to be SNP Westminster Group Leader.
Sheppard has been the Scottish National Party's MP for Edinburgh East since 2015. In this year's election he held his seat with 18.509 votes, which was 42.5% of the vote but 6.7% down on the 2015 election when the SNP had huge success in Scotland.
He opened the first branch of The Stand in 1995 and there are now also branches in Glasgow and Newcastle.
In other General Election news Chris Foote-Wood, Victoria Wood's brother, came third out of just three candidates in the battle for the seat of Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland. He was standing as a Liberal Democrat.
And Lord Buckethead has announced that he intends to stand in the US Presidential elections.
