Acclaimed American stand-up comedian and Edinburgh Festival Perrier Award-winner Demetri Martin (The Daily Show, Comedy Central’s Important Things with Demetri Martin) writes and stars in his directorial film debut DEAN, following a New York-based illustrator who falls for an LA woman while trying, in the wake of his mother’s death, to prevent his father from selling the family home.
Semi-autobiographical and skillfully using Martin’s own pencil illustrations to punctuate the scenes throughout the film, DEAN is a comedic and heartfelt tale about a father and son coming to terms with love, loss and everything in between. As Dean’s unwillingness to deal with the recent death of his mother leads him to escape his hometown of New York for an ad agency job interview in Los Angeles, his father, played by Academy Award-winner Kevin Kline (A Fish Called Wanda), takes a more regimented approach to grief. Both setting out on their own paths to find a new normal, unexpected circumstances and new love interests threaten to thwart all plans.
Taking home the ‘Best U.S. Narrative Feature’ award at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival, DEAN features impeccable performances from a stellar cast of actors including Gillian Jacobs (Community, Love, Don’t Think Twice), Mary Steenburgen (Step Brothers), Rory Scovel (The House, Wrecked) and Reid Scott (Veep).
DEAN will be available in the UK in early 2018.
